Umoja Gibson: A Season to Remember

Across 54 games in three competitions, the 6’1” DePaul product has been one of the most complete point guards in European basketball — scoring, creating, and closing out Cedevita Olimpija’s biggest moments all season long.

Three Leagues, One Dominant Season

Point guards who can hold up across an entire European season are rare. Point guards who can do it across three competitions simultaneously — the ABA League, the Eurocup, and a domestic league playoff run — are rarer still. Umoja Gibson did exactly that in 2025–26, and the numbers paint the picture of a player operating at a level that demands attention.

Born on July 4, 1998 in Waco, Texas, Gibson is a 6’1” point guard who came up through DePaul University before making his way to Europe. This season at Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana, he put together the most complete campaign of his career.

ABA League: Elite by Every Metric

In 27 ABA League games, Gibson averaged 15.8 PPG, 5.2 APG, and 1.6 SPG on 61.1% two-point shooting — a figure that reflects how well he picks his spots attacking the rim while still carrying a heavy offensive load. Five-plus assists per game places him among the best playmakers in the competition, and his steals rate held up throughout a long season.

Individual highlights were everywhere. A 30-point, 10-of-12 two-point shooting performance against Spartak on January 3. A 26-point outing on 4-of-11 threes and 8-of-12 free throws in the playoff opener against Crvena zvezda on May 12. A 25-point game against Partizan in April, going 5-of-6 from three and a perfect 8-of-8 from the line.

Eurocup: Holding His Own in Europe’s Second Tier

The ABA League is a respected regional competition, but the Eurocup is where European careers are made or lost. Gibson was a consistent force across 20 Eurocup appearances, averaging 15.9 PPG, 4.9 APG, and 1.4 SPG while shooting 37.8% from three on high volume.

Cedevita Olimpija played a full 20-game group stage, and Gibson was a rotation anchor from week one. His best Eurocup night came in a January win over Neptunas — 25 points on 4-of-7 threes and 5-of-7 free throws with four assists. He also dropped 25 on Bahcesehir in a January loss, going 14-of-14 from the charity stripe in what was a clinic in late-game composure.

Across both competitions he shot 88.1% from the line in the Eurocup and 84.9% in the ABA League, making him difficult to foul strategically in late-game situations.

The Playoffs: Turning It Up When It Counted

In 7 Slovenia Liga OTP Banka playoff games, Gibson averaged 18.0 PPG, 6.4 APG, and 2.9 RPG while shooting 53.7% on twos and 53.8% from three. The efficiency held up across the full run.

Cedevita Olimpija swept through the bracket, and Gibson was the constant. A 26-point game in the opener against Zlatorog. A 20-point, 6-assist performance against Krka on May 27. A 20-point, 4-assist closing performance in the series clincher on June 1, going 4-of-5 from three. He finished the Slovenian league run as the unquestioned best player on the floor in virtually every game he played.

The Numbers, All Together

Across 54 games in three competitions, Gibson averaged between 15.8 and 18.0 points per game depending on the competition, with assist numbers consistently above 5 and shooting percentages that held up across a full European schedule. At 27 years old, his 2025–26 season with Cedevita Olimpija is the best of his career.
